The Legal Design Journal runs this website for the purposes of publishing scientific papers and contributions in the field of legal design.
Who we are
The Legal Design Journal, in the person of its editor-in-chief Professor Michael Doherty (University of Lancaster), is the controller for the processing of personal data, as described in this privacy statement.
What data we process and why
When you interact with the Journal, we collect personal data that are necessary to fulfil our institutional and scientific purposes. For example, we will process your contribution and contact details when you submit a paper or a review to the journal.
Link to Scholastica
The hyperlinks to the papers will redirect you to Scholastica, a solution to manage and host Open Access academic journals. Scholastica’s website might collect additional information about you, including through cookies. You can consult their privacy policy here.
The lawful basis for our processing
We will process such data to fulfil the legitimate interests of the Journal (i.e. publication of papers, response to users’ queries), on the condition that the latter are not overridden by the interests or fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject. Otherwise, we will process the data with your consent.
How long will we keep the data
Data will be stored for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes of the Journal, including to respond to potential copyright infringment claims. For example, papers submitted but not accepted for publication and reviews will be stored for a period of six years.
Your rights and how to exercise them
As a data subject, you can exercise your data protection rights at any time. For instance, you can always ask us if we are processing data about you (and in this case, obtain a copy of it). You can also request to rectify or erase your personal data, or restrict the processing based on your personal circumstances, as well as exercise your right to data portability. When we are processing your data based on your consent, you are entitled to withdraw your consent at any time.
